With Masher, you are always in control of who gets to see what.
Every time you save a Mash you tell us whether you want to make it public or private. You can always change your settings later in your My stuff area, if you like.
Public: This means your Mash can be viewed in Recent Mashtrocities, Most Watched Mashes or other public places on Masher.
Private: Your Mash will only be seen by the people you want to share it with, which you can do by emailing it or by publishing it to a blog, social networking pages or website.

Masher will not delete your content unless your account gets deactivated. Why would your account get deactivated.
Glad you asked. If you don’t log in for over 90 days, we figure you’ve moved on and we wrap things up. Sadly.
Another thing that might get your account deactivated is if you upload inappropriate content, or content that doesn’t belong to you, or you violate Masher’s terms of use in some egregious and otherwise unpleasant way. So behave.

We take this stuff seriously. Masher respects the rights of copyright holders and publishers and will take strict action against any infringement. Please visit Terms & Conditions and Code of Conduct sections to learn more.
[collapse this topic]
Let’s keep it clean, okay? For more on this topic, please read our Terms and Conditions and Code of Conduct.
[collapse this topic]
No. Masher does not allow the use of copyrighted material, unless you own the copyright. Masher is about helping you create and share your own content, not something owned by someone else.
Content such as TV shows and clips, sports and news highlights, feature films, music videos, tracks pulled from albums-all are copyrighted and cannot be used in your mashes.
Basic rule of thumb is-if you created it from scratch, you own it, otherwise it belongs to someone else. The exception to this is content that is within the public domain.
If you include copyrighted material in your mash and we become aware of it, we will have to delete your mash and, possibly, even terminate your account.
For complete details, please refer to our Terms and Conditions and Code of Conduct.
[collapse this topic]
You do. For complete details, please read our Terms and Conditions.
By signing up as a Masher user, you grant Masher a limited license to reuse your content, and we grant you the right to use our software and to reuse public or shared content on Masher. Of course, you can always keep your content private by selecting "Private" when you create a mash. You can always change your permissions one way or another at a later date.
[collapse this topic]
To a limited degree. Our terms and conditions have more information on this, but in a nutshell:
You cannot relicense, rent or resell your mashes or use them to promote a commercial service or product.
[collapse this topic]
No. Under Masher’s Terms and Conditions, as well as the laws in your own country, you cannot use copyrighted material or content which is owned by someone else without their express permission. We’re strict on this policy-we have to be. Otherwise it would be unfair to everyone.
If you are unsure whether or not you can use a particular piece of content, our advice is: Don’t.
If it comes to our attention that there is copyrighted material on Masher, we remove it immediately, and in a worst case scenario, terminate the account of the person who posted it.
[collapse this topic]
Sorry, can’t help you with that one. We’ve got enough on our hands trying to make Masher even better with a whole slew of improvements. But we wish you all the luck in the world.

No. The content we provide is for use in Masher mashes only. However, if you would like to use the content outside of Masher, it is readily available for licensing.
For information on licensing BBC clips, visit BBC Motion Gallery at bbcmotiongallery.com. There you will also find tens of thousands of high-quality, creative videos covering practically every subject you can imagine.
For information on licensing music tracks, visit our About Us page which lists our music partners, or feel free to write Masher via our Contact Us page and we’ll be happy to help.

If you delete your account, any mashes that you have created and published will be deleted as well, and in their place, viewers will receive the message, "This mash is unavailable."
If you are deleting your account because you want to change your email address or password or something else, there’s a much easier way:
You can revise everything except your username.
If you still want to cancel your Masher account, please send us an email through our contact us page and we’ll be glad to help. Before we do anything, though, we’ll confirm your request through email.

Masher accepts all of the common file types:
Audio files: .MP3, WMA, WMV
Video files: .ASF, .AVI, .DV, .MOV, .MPEG, .MPG, .MP4, .WMV, .QT, .3GP
Image files: .JPG, PNG, JPEG

Yes, and here’s why. Your content is stored in your personal, password-protected My stuff area on Masher. Registering also allows you to save, edit, delete and publish your mashes. And if you like, having a username means we can keep you posted on news, free offers and other Masher benefits.
[collapse this topic]
Masher allows you to store a ton of media in your My stuff area. In fact, you can store up to 100mb of videos, images and music.
[collapse this topic]
[collapse this topic]
The upload time depends on your internet bandwidth and the file size of the content you’re uploading. To give you an idea, uploading a 5MB file on a 256 kbps broadband line should take you about 4 minutes.
In any event, a status bar will appear so you can see how things are moving along.
[collapse this topic]
Masher allows you to upload an individual video file up to 100Mb in length. Usually that works out to about 5 minutes of video.
If your file is larger than 100 MB, we recommend that you reduce the file size by either editing it, splitting it or compressing it.
You’ll find lots of tools to do these things all over the web. Try Googling "free video splitter."
PC users: You’ll probably find Easy Video Splitter near the top of the Google results. This is an easy to use application for PC users and allows for a free trial period. Windows Movie Maker will also do the trick.
Mac users: You’re in luck as iMovie is included with Tiger and Leopard, and it is a joy to use. Of course, QuickTime Pro-which isn’t free but is very inexpensive-can also do the job quite well.

One reason might be your Internet connectivity. You need a Cable Modem, DSL or other Broadband connection with at least 500 Kbps download and 384K upload capabilities.
Want to check your speeds? We love this website: http://www.speedtest.net.
Another reason might be that Masher is momentarily getting slammed with users all wanting to view mashes at the same time. We can handle A LOT of traffic, but everyone has their limits!

It’s easy.

You have the following volume control options in the Masher editor time line:
Master volume control: This is the speaker icon in the player window, and it controls the master volume of your entire mash.
Music Timeline volume control: Controls the ambient sound that plays across your mash. You have the option of looping your music so it will play repeatedly for the duration of your mash.
Picture In Picture volume control: Controls the volume of the video in the Picture In Picture timeline.
Video volume control: Controls the volume of any video that you use in the video timeline.

Your mash can be published in any blog, website or social networking site section that allows you to publish content.
Your mash can also be emailed. When your email is sent, the person who receives it will get a link which directs them to your mash on the Masher Viewing page.

For easy reference, the Upload section in the Editor lists the file types and sizes Masher accepts.
Images: Masher accepts any size. However, to speed up your uploads, you should resize your photos to 640 x 480 pixels. These will look great on the screen, and will upload more quickly than larger photos.
Audio: .MP3 files provide the best playback Masher. We recommend:
64Kbit/sec bit rate
Mono only (not stereo)
22.050 Khz Sampling Rate
8 bit Sampling
Video: MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) formats provide the best playback in Masher. We recommend:
320x240 resolution
30 frames per second

At this time, mashes can’t be downloaded to your computer. However, you can email them or share them on websites, pages and blogs. If you want to share a mash, go to your My stuff page, find the mash and select "Share." From there, you will be walked through the process.
[collapse this topic]
Two ways. One, we feature the most recent mashes. Two, we show off the most watched mashes. So the short answer is, make something cool that everybody will want to see, then share it all over the place.
[collapse this topic]
At this time, Masher is only in English.
[collapse this topic]
Yes. When your mash plays, Masher references the content in your My stuff storage.
If you attempt to delete a clip that is used in a Mash, you will be asked to confirm. If you decide to go ahead and delete the content anyway, your mash will still play, but there will be an empty space where the deleted content once was.
[collapse this topic]
Easy. When you first create the Title and are happy with the way it looks and its placement on the screen, drag the blue Title bar to the timeline repeatedly over all the clips where you want the Title to appear.
[collapse this topic]
Sorry about that-we’re working on improving this right now. For the moment, that’s the way widescreen formatted video is made to fit. In the near future, Masher will be using "pan and scan", which is what they use on television. It means your widescreen clips will be uploaded with no distortion, and the right and left edges will be omitted so the video becomes the correct aspect ratio.
[collapse this topic]
Not at this time. But you do have the option of looping your music so it plays for the entire duration of your mash. In the Music Timeline, simply click on the option, "Loop Music." Your track will play repeatedly until the end of your mash.

At this moment, Masher does not provide a search functionality. Stay tuned.

Not for the time being. But we’re already working on many enhancements to Masher, and this is certainly on our radar.

Second, make sure you have the very latest release of Flash installed. Adobe makes regular updates, so it pays to check often. You can get the latest version of Flash using this link:

Check the volume controls on both your mash and your computer. You might also want to make sure your system meets Masher’s minimum performance requirements, and that you have the latest version of Flash installed.
If all else fails, re-upload the piece of content which is having the issue and that might help.

At this point, no. But we are working on many enhancements to Masher and we think this feature would be very cool.
[collapse this topic]
At this time, Masher doesn’t include this as a functionality. But we are hard at work on many enhancements, and this is one a lot of us would like to see.

Ten minutes.
[collapse this topic]
Delete the link which is on the page itself.
If you delete your mash without removing the link on your social networking page, users will get a message saying "This mash is no longer available." Whereas, if you delete the link, the whole thing is removed.
[collapse this topic]
Could be you accidentally missed some of the code when you did you copy and paste.
Otherwise, there might be some sort of problem with your mash. Open your mash in the editor, and save it again, then try copying and pasting the link one more time.
If the problem persists, there might be a technical issue with the site itself which, for some reason, is not allowing the mash to play. Please let us know through our Contact Us page that you are having a problem and we will do our best to resolve it.
[collapse this topic]
If you’re on a PC, check Properties.
If you’re on a Mac, select the item and press control-I. A dialogue box will appear that lists the file size and other information.

Unfortunately, no. Hate to say it but you’re going to have to upload your content again.
[collapse this topic]
Always advisable! Masher is definitely safe and sound, but in the event your content is lost we cannot be responsible. Backing up all your important information is one of the best habits you can form. That and flossing.

PIP is one of our most popular features. It allows you to place one video inside another. For example, in your main Video Timeline, you can include a video of that party you went to last weekend. In the PIP Timeline, you can include a video of yourself narrating the goings on. PIP gives you a whole new world of creative opportunities.
